Meditation (Theta 6 Hz)

A 6 Hz binaural beat — mid-theta, the band most associated with deep meditation EEG. Used as a background layer under silent sits or as a standalone 'go inward' audio cue. Real effects are modest and require headphones.

What it is

Beat frequency: 6 Hz · Carrier: 250 Hz · Band: 4–8 Hz (Theta) · meditation / creative states

A mid-theta beat with a 250 Hz carrier. Warmer than the 4 Hz dream preset, still drifty. Best used eyes-closed in a quiet room.

Why this frequency

EEG recordings of experienced meditators consistently show elevated theta during deep absorption states. Whether listening to theta binaural beats *produces* those states is less settled — the beats may entrain EEG modestly, but the meditative state itself comes from attention, not audio. Think of this as a useful layer, not the practice itself.

Best for

  • silent meditation
  • breath focus
  • body scan
  • yoga nidra

One honest caveat

Binaural beats are not a substitute for meditation skill. They're an optional audio layer — helpful for some, neutral for most.

How Loam uses binaural beats

Binaural beats work as a layer in Loam — you can pair one with any soundscape or with The Moment, at an independent volume, through headphones. They're not sold as a miracle cure. The honest position: some people find them helpful, the effects are subtle, and the real research base is narrower than the internet claims.

Try it in the Loam app

Meditation (Theta 6 Hz) is one of six binaural presets in the Sound Studio mixer. Download Loam to listen with headphones — they are required for the binaural effect to work.
